Did you excel in reading back in high school

Did you excel in reading back in high school?
1. Sports are harmful to society in two ways, reflecting the conflict between the interests of the relatively powerful and those of the powerless (the ruling class vs. the masses, team owners vs. sports audiences). 2. First, by serving as an integrating force, sports effectively act as an opiate, numbing the masses’ sense of dissatisfaction with capitalist society. Involvement in sports as spectators tends to distract low-paid or unemployed workers from their tedious and dehumanizing jobs or frustrating joblessness. At the same time, sports tend to promote what Marx called “false consciousness,” attitudes that support the established society rather than question it. The mostly working-class “soccer hooligans” in Great Britain are a good example. After their team loses in international soccer games, they often show “an exaggerated, embarrassing patriotism, a violent nationalism” by attacking foreigners. To divert their citizens’ attention from their miserable lives, governments of many poor countries also seize any opportunity that arises to whip up the masses into a frenzy of patriotic support for their teams. Such a nationalist frenzy can be carried to extremes, as it was in 1969 when Honduras and El Salvador went to war against each other after a World Cup soccer match. 3. Second, sports reinforce social, gender, and racial inequalities in society. With regard to social inequality, the overemphasis on competition and winning has caused the loss of something that all participants can enjoy equally—namely, the original elements of play and fun in sporting activities. This has turned many people into “couch potatoes” who spend more time watching than playing sports. Sports, then, have become big business, with powerful owners of professional teams exploiting the public and government. Aside from making enormous sums of money from the fans, team owners receive many tax breaks while enjoying the enviable position of being the only self-regulated (in effect, unregulated) monopoly in the nation. Team owners have further professionalized and bureaucratized sports. This in turn has generated an elitist system, in which a very tiny number of owners and players become tycoons and superstars and the huge numbers of potential players are transformed into mere spectators. What is the following? Sports are harmful to society. a)the main idea of paragraph 3 b)the main idea of paragraph 2 c)the topic of the passage d)the central point of the passage

Yes... I did excel in High School reading class. You can too, just stop depending on others to do you work.

The English hooligan problem has never been whipped up by the British state in a flurry of nationalist feeling, for the british state, represents just that - Britain. while english football fans only 'represent' england. The british government has always been deeply embarrassed by this major cultural export of ours. Also its worth pointing out that many hooligans were/are of a left wing persuasion ie:some liverpool fc groups in the 80's. the truth is that a vast majority of football hooligans could not care for the details of political thought, their prejudices are the same as the rest of the society they come from. Extreme political groups have always tried too recruit from football gangs with some but over-all very little success, ultimately english football hooligans couldn't give a fuck about what any politician in a gray suit says or thinks

Life choices advice needed urgently

Life choices advice needed urgently!?
Please help, I'm very confused as to what is the best way forward in my life. To give you a bit of background, I'm 35, live in the Channel Islands, Great Britain and have worked as a hospital administrator for 10 years. Before that, I had a nervous breakdown for want of better words. I had dropped out of university, got diagnosed with bipolar depression and the job started as simple clerical tasks as a therapeutic way of bringing me out of my depression. I did well at the job and soon moved up the ranks and 10 years on I'm still there! Don't get me wrong, it's a stable, well paid job but I've always felt as if I am 'better' than an admin person and need to get a career. I've got a teaching English as a foreign language qualification and have been teaching in my spare time and am almost finished a modern languages degree by correspondance. Meanwhile, I met someone 2 years ago through work, we've since bought a house together and got engaged. He's the love of my life! I'm 35 and my mother started her menopause at age 40. I'm worried that if we don't have a baby soon it will be too late. I also need to come off my lithium for at least 6 months before conceiving which will be very stressful too. So, my quandary comes because I've been 'head hunted' for a job which will incorporate my teaching skills and academic abilities by working as a 'mentor' in a careers service. The job is only a 6 month contract though and my current contract is permanent. Which order should I do things in? Stick with the well paid but boring job I'm in now, make full use of the maternity leave it offers and have a baby and forget about the career.... ......or, grab this chance at doing something I've been wanting to do for a long, long time and risk losing time to have a baby, risk losing money if my contract isn't renewed after the 6 months. Where would that leave us as a couple? I wouldn't be earning money to pay my share of the mortgage. To be honest, I can't work out which option is best for me and need your help. Thank you

Wow quite a dilemma...have you tried talking to your mate about this? His opinion should matter more than anyones one here! If it's me personally, I would forgo the child and go for the career, but I'm not one who craves parenthood. One thing to consider is if your mates income can support the two of you if this other job does fall through? Worse comes to worse and you end up unemployed in six months, can he support the two of you while you try and find something else? I'm sorry I cannot give you the answer and tell you what to do, but I strongly recommend talking over these issue you brought and the ones I raised with your mate. Best of luck to you!

Know anything about triple citizenship

Know anything about triple citizenship?
I was born in Great Britain and moved to the States when I was 7. As of this past Monday I am now citizens of both countries. Even though America doesn't recognize dual, just saying you renounce citizenship to Great Britain doesn't work you have to write a letter. I was wondering if any of you were citizens of three countries or knew anything about it? Thanks Guys! First two answers: I didn't ask you for your opinion. It's none of your business what I do with my life. You know nothing about me nor do you the reasons behind this question. Actually it's not traitorous at all. It's completely legal. Nothing you two say will ever take the experiences I have had away from me.

Citizenship of 3 countries is not practical.
2 :
Dual is still acceptable by some countries but not triple. You have no devotion to any other so why keep you. Best is to choose one and be a loyal citizen. For most traders who run around in two working countries, they will keep two.
3 :
I am not sure what you are trying to ask but in theory you could be a citizen of three countries. For instance, if your parents were from two different countries that recognized the principle of Jus sanguinis; however, you were born in the US. You would be entitled to citizen in all three barring either had a rule against or forced you to swear allegiance to their country.

True you asked no opinion . However your hearing the truth. If someone wants to be an American they should hold no other citizenship or loyalty. The insane idea of Iraq people living here and voting in Iraq elections is just another way this Country is headed downhill.

I was born in what's now the Czech republic, When Communists took over became a DP (displaced person), then came to the States and became a US citizen (losing the Czech citizenship). In 1998 by a Czech-US agreement, dual citizenship was recognized by both countries. So, I have now dual. 8 years ago while working in Taiwan, I married a Filipina and now live in the Philippines. According to the local law, I can get Philippine citizenship after 10 years residence. That would qualify me for a third passport although I don't see almost any advantages in having it. Come to think of it, I have met a man on a flight from Taiwan to USA who had a triple citizenship... Czech, Italian, and Maltese. Hope this helps.

yes you can be a dual citizenship of two countries as long as both countries allow dual citizenship. USA DOES allow dual citizenship. YES You can be a citizen of three or more countries as well - AS LONG AS ALL THREE (or more) countries ALL allow dual citizenship. The actor Keanu Reeves has 4 citizenships. His mother is English, his father American, he was born in Lebanon abd he grew up in Canada. He is entitled to citizenships from ALL 4 countries. I beleive he uses his Canadian passport the most.
