Sounds about right.
2 :
Although you seem to have the right idea with the problem, the answer does not sound right since 11.6 is not really that close to 10 given that multiple choice questions usually have an answer that is rounds up or down to one of the answer choices. Is this all the information given for the problem? I feel like we are missing a crucial instruction or piece of information to accurately solve the problem.

you have 14 countries, including Korea which would be 151/14=10.7

You are going about it the wrong way. Knowing how many medals other countries won will not help you predict how many medals Korea won or will win. We are clearly missing something. The average of those cars will not tell you how fast my Kia goes!!!

Health Care Reform in America

Health Care Reform in America?
Its been a while since the Health Care Bill has been passes and i wanted some opinions. I hear that Countries like France and Britain have universal health care and that it seems to be working out great for them. Do you think it will work out the same for us in America? explain. Is the quality of health care in France and Britain better than that of America? Do they have better resources to meet the medical needs of their people under universal health care compared to America? This last opinion question is going to sound a bit stupid. Would you considering moving to a country like france or britain for its better heal care? i personally would prefer to live in a country that can help me live long and healthy rather than being in one that could put me into debt cause of a certain medical emergency

1 :
the health care is not better it is the second largest business in england read up on it
2 :
They have a different economic system in other countries. The USA will change economic systems to accommodate the insurance bill, over the next 20 years, there will be an evident alteration in the design of the economic system. What follows, is the prevention in the creation of jobs, and the economy will not restore very much.
3 :
Britain has the WORST health care look it up and find out
4 :
We start PAYING for OBAMA CARE on January 1st 2011. Hopefully the newly REPUBLICAN CONGRESS will DE-FUND it. Every PERSON who knows better - has said: Obama Care will not: 1) increase access 2) improve care 3) decrease cost. Well - in fairness Zero out of Three - ain't bad.... for Obama.
5 :
Health care does not work out "great" in England. And it will be horrible here in America as well. Do research please, there health care is terrible compared to what ours is. And now thanks to progressives, that has been ruined.
6 :
Our health care reform is nothing like universal health care. In France you get a year paid for maternity leave.
7 :
The reform we have in America is not like the EU or Canada. Socialized Health Care in the EU and Canada are paid through taxes. It is illegal to charge a fee. In America we will pay just as much if not more in taxes than the EU and Canada. AND we have to PURCHASE at regular rates the same insurance I could buy today without have my taxes raised. In America the reform in the Health Care Bill is for Americans not the Insurance companies. All the penalties are aimed at Americans none for Insurance companies or drug companies. Insurance companies and drug companies are being allowed to raise their rates. The cost of our Health Care will be based on our CREDIT and our HEALTH. Most of America will be forced to buy expensive policies without qualifying for government assistance unless you make less than $9,000 for single and $16,000 for married couples. People paid minimum wage make more than this so they won't qualify either
8 :
Their health care isn't better which is why so many people come to the US for for health care. Its also not free. Their taxes are much higher than ours to pay for that government run health care. And in the US's case when has the government made something cheaper and more efficient?
9 :
Hold on, hold on. All these answers are from Americans who haven't experienced the British health care system, so I think I ought to put a say in this, don't you? Yes, our health care system is free (unless if you count taxes), meaning anyone has access to it, be they Lord So-and-so, or your average homeless guy. So, an advantage here - you don't get billed for entering through the hospital doors... For someone who is often seen wandering around a doctor's surgery or hospital, I'm personally glad that I don't have to pay every time I need to see a doctor. Of course, we do also have private health care. If someone wants a nicer room, better service etc, they have the option of paying extra. Now, as for the quality of service. 'Tis true, it's not the best; a fact enforced by the way that those in the medical career are not paid highly (unless if they're a doctor or consultant). Plus, waiting lists are very, very long. Often, a lot of the people on the doctor's waiting list are people who have a cold or they feel a bit 'down' and they basically waste the doctor's time moaning about their supposed bad health (however, if we had to pay for medical treatment, wouldn't a lot of people put off seeing a doctor?). You literally have to wait months sometimes in order to have an emergency procedure. A couple of weeks ago, my grandfather was due for a "semi-emergency" hernia operation (after waiting about two months). He was told he was first on the waiting list for that day, and after about five hours of waiting, he was turned away (partly because they decided to operate on two people before him, and partly because the medical staff had not performed all the necessary pre-op procedures). Also, it must be said that the quality of the health care is not perfect either, but I personally blame the doctors for that (they seem to have the belief that they're getting paid regardless of how well they treat their patients)... In short, the health care reform has the potential to be a good thing, if you want health care to be extended for those who would not otherwise be able to afford it. But it does also have its drawbacks, which can be avoided if Obama's plan is executed well. It's possible that a lot of money would need to go into medical care through taxes in order for it to work properly, and I leave it to you to decide whether this would be a good or bad thing.

Why does Britain allow people to immigrate into GB who openly HATE England and only want the free money

Why does Britain allow people to immigrate into GB who openly HATE England and only want the free money?
It makes me sick. They want free money, free homes, free health care, free EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!! When you talk to them in the street they keep going on about how evil the country is and yet benefit off the backs of the tax payers.. The questionnaire should read: 1) Do you Love England? 2) Are you willing to work? If you answer "NO" to the above.... You are now a citizen, Welcome to Great Britain. I Live in America and I would say almost all of our immigrants truly love this country. (With an exception of a small few) They are hard working people who actually contribute to our society and to our culture. The immigrants in England are horrible because they go there knowing that they will get a free ride and the government will let them get away with it. Hell, British culture is even suppressed in the schools in favor of other cultures under the guise of tolerance. My wife is British and she was not allowed to be a christian in school but had Hinduism shoved down her throat. Nothing wrong with learning other cultures and religions because it makes us grow as a people. But to have your OWN culture and religion suppressed because it might offend OTHER people? Why are the British becoming second class citizens in their own country? This is not about racism. Please do not answer with racist comments. This is about a government allowing their own people to be victimized and the immigrants refusal to integrate and to contribute to the society instead of suppressing it and taking advantage of the people who live there. I am ALL for immigration. Immigration of my forefathers is the reason I am here. I will have to jump through hurdles if I ever wanted to immigrate to my wife's country because I come from America and am willing to work.

It's the same thing in Germany, the Turkish come to Germany get free money every month and all they do is complain about Germany. But, then when you say something like, if you hate our country so much go back to yours all you here is Nazi this Nazi that. I don't understand either why our countries are doing this. But things need to change because I'm tired of paying tax money for people that are to lazy to work, and I'm sure you are too.

As an American Citizen, how would I go about attaining a British Work Visa?
I am currently a U.S. college student in California, but I want to travel around for a bit. Afterall this is about the only time I'll get to experience it. I would very much like to live in Britain for a year or so, but I'd need to get a job to support myself while I am there. Any information would be great. Thanks!

First off, "Britain" is basically short for The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.... I will assume you mean England lol. As for working there, it will NOT be easy. You will need more than a visa. You will need to get a work permit...however, YOU can't get it....the company that wishes to hire you will have to get it on your behalf. So, you will need to find a company that wishes to hire you, they will apply for a permit on your behalf (sometimes they will pay for it, sometimes you will have to pay for it yourself), then you can get a visa, then you can go there and work. It is extremely diffiult to get one of these lol. But, here are a few links that may help you. good luck! :) www.ukvisas.gov.uk www.workpermits.gov.uk

How do you solve these two physics problems

How do you solve these two physics problems?
Question 1:An extremely light, drivable car with a mass of only 9.50kg was built in London. Suppose that the wheels of the car are locked, so that the car no longer rolls. If the car is pushed up a 30.0 degree slope by an applied force of 80.0N, the net acceleration of the car is 1.64 m/s^2. What is the coefficient of kinetic friction between the car and the incline? Question 2:Cleopatra's Needle, an obelisk given by the Egyptian government to Great Britain in the nineteenth century, is 20+ m tall and has a mass of about 1.89 * 10^5 kg. Suppose the monument is lowered onto its side and dragged horizontally to a new location. An applied force of 7.6 * 10^5 N is exerted on the monument, so that its net acceleration is 0.11m/s^2. What is the magnitude of the frictional force? Can you show some work so that I can figure out how you did the problem?

Everything can be solved by the simple equation: F=ma Start with that. (I can solve this, but I would be doing your work for you, wouldn't I?)
2 :
For a body in constant acceleration, the sum of all forces is equal to m*a Prob 1) Convert the mass to weight: 9.5kg = 93.163 N Draw an x,y coordinate system along the incline, where the x coordinate is parallel to the slope and the y is perpendicular. SUM Fx = 93.163 * sin 30 - u*(80) = 1.64*9.5 where u is the coefficient of kinetic friction. u = (93.163*sin 30 - 1.64*9.5)/80 u = 0.3885 Prob 2) 1.89*10^5kg = 1853456.855412 N u = (7.6*10^5 - 0.11*1.89*10^5)/1853456.855412 u = 0.3988

How do we wipe out this Welfare / Benefit culture in Britain that is plaguing our once great land

ow do we wipe out this Welfare / Benefit culture in Britain that is plaguing our once great land?
Due to an internal banking error my extortionate council tax (£120 pm 1 bed flat) was not paid on time, It was 5 days late. In the post I was very surprised to find a court summons and a fine of £55 for the late payment. When challenged the council simply told me to write in. Now, my partner and I have never ever claimed benefits so I was shocked that we were treated like this, did you not get any leniency or at least a few days grace? Anyway, I went into the offices, took my ticket and placed myself in the queue. After 5 minutes of subtle observation I was aware that the 2 or 3 parties in front of me were actually discussing ways of avoiding paying anything at all. An Eastern European family had lots of paperwork, namely '' housing and council tax benefit evidence checklist'' which indicated to me they were trying to avoid paying. 3 girls opposite, 1 pregnant were discussing how much they are given and the best ways to manipulate the system, advising each other how best to word their cases, so they were experts. I felt riled, continually the same types of people rolled in, all with a wanton look on their faces, I accept the unemployment problem and I know I sound like an old record but today I was really really shocked by how much abuse our battered system is taking from people who dont give a toss and would happily take take take forever. I am slowly being misguided into thinking that it really is easier not to work and have my bills paid for me...... I know this isnt the most structured or articulate remonstration but I feel better. I am strongly in favour of some kind of community service for the long term unemployed. Cleaning hospitals, picking up litter just SOMETHING to get them off their lazy árses. If they were being made to do some sort of work to earn their benefits you'd soon see them get a proper, better paid job quick enough. My husband is a manager in a betting shop. All day long he sees layabouts getting drunk and squandering their money...sorry HIS money that his taxes paid for. Sickening.

Where is the best place in the world to study oratory and extemporaneous speaking for a mid-20's professional

Where is the best place in the world to study oratory and extemporaneous speaking for a mid-20's professional?
I am a lawyer but want to go to a place, enroll in a curriculum, whether in the United States or Great Britain that will drastically improve my public speaking skills. To be able to speak off the cuff. To influence the masses. I have considered to try to work for British Parliament and watch the debate as much as possible since we Americans have truly turned our back on good oratory.

You can try the UK .. Oxford or Cambridge have some very good public speaking courses. Also believe it or not there is some excellent public speaking in the top schools of India -- they are the Indian equivalent of Oxford and are run by British experts. Listen to Sashi Tharoor -- a former top guy at the UN and now famous commentator. He is even more eloquent than British leaders (and has a posh British accent as do most rich Indians in India) and he is a product of the Indian school system. Just youtube him and you'll see what I mean. Good Luck.
3 :
Having a lot of experience with public speaking I can offer a few thoughts. First 90% of the difference between a good public speaker and a poor public speaker is their comfort level in front of an audience. For a few people it comes naturally for the rest experience is the best teacher. Acting classes, a community theatre group, and toastmasters are all great training grounds. If you get a part in a little theatre produced play will give you that kind of experience. Second- just like the law, a good speaker, especially an extemporaneous one, depends on knowledge of the subject matter at hand. For example if I were to ask you to speak on the subject of studying torts you could probably give me 15 minutes without even sweating it. However, if I asked you to speak about trends in 19th century women's fashion I would be willing to bet that you would be tongue tied beyond all measure. Third, study the great speeches and great speakers. (agree with him or not) Obama is a great public speaker, however when you analyze his speaking style, one can easily see connections to a speech style highly reminiscent of Martin Luther King. The cadence, timing and word choice, repetition of key words or phrases etc. Fourth, there are certain tricks of the trade in terms of construction, speech patterns, how one stands, what one wears, hand gestures etc. You can pick up a book on these techniques fairly easily. Getting back to toastmasters, there are clubs all over the world probably one close to where you live. Finally, since you are a lwyer, you may wish to reconnect with your alma mater to see if they have alumini extension classes. Moving to the UK or Washington, DC to witness parliment/congress is a great romantic idea, but these other steps are a bit less radical to start.

Which town is best for an immigrant to find work in

Which town is best for an immigrant to find work in?
While I do my PGCE in one of the following places, my husband - who will be a new immigrant to the UK - will have to find work. He's got an Economics degree and experience in a non-UK (Turkish) government office. He'll be looking for "office assistant" type work. In which of the following towns would it be easiest for an immigrant to find a job in an office, and make enough money to support us for a year? We would be looking for the kind of job that pays about 1.5 times minimum wage. Aberdeen London Exeter Leeds Oxford Sheffield Strathclyde Those are my main options, but if anyone can recommend a hidden corner of Great Britain where it's easy for an immigrant to find work, please let me know!

What did the British leave behind in Zimbabwe culture?
Zimbabwe was taken over by Great Britain in the 1800's. Does anyone know what things have been left behind by the British that affect the culture today? Language, government, culture, daily life, foods, holidays, almost anything would work- Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

During Britain's Industrial Revolution, what was life in slums like

During Britain's Industrial Revolution, what was life in slums like?
I am doing a school project, one in which I am reconstructing a slum. What kind of things would be inside of a room for a family? How often did people work? How many people were in the average family? Were people frequently sick? Did black British people live in slums? If someone could answer soon (I have to start working on my project tonight), that would be great!

Urban ghettos were born in that period - just make do housing was created for the workers. people slept in cellar like dorms. I remember reading there was like 1 toilet for about 250 people. Filth and grime, outbreaks of plague etc. were common place at the time. Yes they lived in slums
2 :
HISTORY OF THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION The Industrial Revolution, one of the most vital periods of change in Great Britain, occurred because of the stable economic, social, and political stance of the country, as well as brought lasting effects in Britain in each of these areas. With its fast growing monopoly on ocean trade, its renewed interest in scientific discovery, and its system of national banks holding tight to its financial security, Britain was, at the time of the Industrial Revolution, ripe for change. It was the great historical epoch we call the Industrial Revolution which would forever change city life, social class structure, the power of the British nation amongst others of the world, the production of machinery, and the strength of the economy of Britain. Because of the Industrial Revolution, never again would the British have to suffer the results of no changes regarding the inequalities of the working world, nor doubt the strength of their country, yet come to view the word "technology" in a completely new way. Due to its sturdy financial and economic conditions, Great Britain was the leading figure in the Industrial Revolution. First of all, its domination of the seas via a strong military force gave it control of ocean transportation and trade. Ongoing British trade of tobacco, sugar, tea, and slaves internationally was largely a result of this control. Secondly, Britain’s national banking system provided it with capital from investments and a surplus of finances for which to use in commerce on the international scale. New inventions of the time included John Kay’s "flying shuttle" weaving device and George Stephenson’s "Rocket" railway train, along with innovations such as Abraham Darby’s thought to use coal instead of charcoal in order to create fuel, as well as Henry Bessemer's renovation of steel production. Each of these improvements aided both the production and transportation of products and materials used for trade and in industrial factories. Other new developments included a seed drill, which enabled farmers to plant seeds in straight rows, along with the introduction of mechanical reapers and threshers. These and other devices greatly increased farm production in Britain, promoting the growth and trade of the country. The improved cultivation of healthier fruits, vegetables, and other foods grown on British farms using the new inventions bettered the health and growth of the population, which meant there were more workers to help run industrial factories. Great Britain was also rich in natural resources such as water and coal. These could provide an ample energy supply for trains, factories, steam ships, and other devices which increased transportation and also the movement of workers and new industrial ideas as well. In fact, Britain’s American colonies played an important role in providing the country with such vital raw materials. The enclosure movement restricted the ownership of public farmlands specifically to the wealthy landowners. As a result of this movement, an influx of unemployed farm workers was created, adding to Britain’s strong labor force in cities. An increase in the number of workers in industry meant that factories could run more efficiently and produce more goods than ever before, helping to manufacture a much greater amount of new machinery. It was this expanded variety of mechanical tools that would fuel the continuation of the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution was a positive era to have occurred in Britain. In the beginning, however, the Industrial Revolution appeared to bring no benefits at all to the country. Living conditions in cities became unsanitary, as well as cramped and impoverished. Factories subjected men, women, and even children workers to low wages, harsh punishments, and unprotected work around dangerous machinery. The tremendous use of coal in industrial production polluted the atmosphere, as well as people’s lungs, and workers’ conditions in the coalmines were not much better than in factories. Food was expensive for poor factory workers, and thus they could afford only to eat rancid meats, fatty fried foods, and stale bread, which contributed to the extreme malnutrition and sickness in the cities. However, the positive outcomes of the Industrial Revolution rivaled the damage of its more negative effects. Britain obtained much capital from its many new international trading ventures with major nations, all largely dealing with the exchange of new and improved industrial machinery. Thus, Great Britain grew to become the most powerful manufacturing nation, and the strongest economically, in all of Europe. As Britain’s incoming finances grew and increased, citizens were able to move up the rungs of the social class ladder in British society, thus improving their financial and educational statuses. Alongside new inventions came exciting discoveries in medicine, providing for better treatments of diseases and th

How have regulations for car and road safety changed since the beginning of the 20th century

How have regulations for car and road safety changed since the beginning of the 20th century?
I have to produce a report on this for my science coursework and am a little stuck.. :S some of the questions i need to look into are: 1) give reasons why there have been changes to speed limits for cars in Great Britain during the last hundred years 2) Who designed the first speed camera. Describe how one named type of fixed speed camera works. 3) How does the air bag work? How do air bags reduce injury? 4) Compare the features of a modern car with a very early car. Apart from air bags, describe TWO DIFFERENT safety features that are used in modern cars to reduce the risk of injury. Use ideas about speed, forces and energy to explain how these features make the car safer. Would appreciate if you could help answer any of these questions in as much detail as you can. Thank you =]

Is America ready for Islamic law? for the betterment of society

Is America ready for Islamic law? for the betterment of society?
Islamic law is now at work in many nations including great britain where special courts are now operating. What do Americans think of this movement and once it is set up here how will they respond? To expand on this, how they would operate at first, here is an example. A man assaults another man. The victim tells the police 'No I do not wish to press charge' thus bypassing the american system, and instead they will have a special hearing in an Islamic Court. This is how they are doing it in Britain very succesfully

What an interesting reversal...Americans wouldn't be too crazy about having Islamic law so it seems pretty sillly to try to set up an American style governement in Iraq.
2 :
One man's ceiling is another man's floor ~ one view of 'success' may be viewed as complete disaster!.
3 :
The two cannot coexist. Suppose that a woman cheats on her husband, and he, instead of filing for divorce, goes to an Islamic court to have her stoned to death? That is unconstitutional in this country. What do you do at this juncture? Islamic law would be unconstitutional in almost every way. Also, would both people have to consent to being tried under Islamic law? Suppose a black guy shoots a muslim; can the muslim choose to bypass the American system, even if the black guy is not muslim?
4 :
No, it will never work in America. Religious freedom and all that.
5 :
i think it won't work! if that was implemented here, then the same would be applied with laws of other religions and i guess chaos would erupt. all people should be subjected to the same laws, thus everyone is treated equally instead of exemption to someone because of his/her religion.
6 :
First of all this already happens in domestic violence cases already at least in most states. Even if the victim doesn't press charges the state will take over and charge the perpetrator with domestic violence. Never heard of it being referred to as for Islamic law though.
7 :
Let's see. What would we have if America adopted Islamic laws: Women could no longer speak in public, wear the latest fashions, wear makeup, have their hair done, or have a say in the way their households are run. They would be blessed to have an education. Women could be honor-killed if they somehow embarrassed their families. Children could be used as suicide bombers to project the political needs of the times. Freedom of religion would disappear. Christians would be butchered in public, women would be raped by strangers for reading the Bible in public, all non-Muslims would become second-class citizens, and some cities would be restricted to Muslims only. Journalists would be harrassed, have body parts cut off and be killed for writing stories that were anti-Muslim, and the government would permit the violence. Never again would you ever have an investigative reporter. All of them would be mouthpieces for the religion. (I can think of about a million red-necks with guns who would become the new Crusaders over night, and I can name at least one of them.) By the way, ALL of these statements are based on recent news stories. I would be more than happy to share all of my sources for the curious ones. If you're Muslim and you deny any of this, you're just a common liar and I don't have time for you.
8 :
Nope. Islam had its chance but... to cowardly for the American People.
9 :
For the betterment of who's society, yours? Not mine. Do you honestly think that Islamic law is better than anybody else's law? If you wish to live your life being governed by Islamic law, that is your choice, and you have my full support. Just don't force me to accept it.
10 :
Why do Muslims move to other countries and expect those countries to change for them? Like it or not, the USA was founded on Christian principles.
11 :
First of all, what you are talking about is bs. England has not adopted the Sharia but rather small part of the Muslim society are trying to implement this type of law. Isn't this why there are some many domestic terrorists over there, because they never assimilated to the system? Please give all the facts. Betterment of society? are you mad man? How can a woman press charges of rape? Oh yea, she needs to have 4 males testify that they were present during the rape, if not she is an adulterer which can be stoned to death. How is that better? Sharia has no chance here and I will give you my word, I will fight it to the end. Sharia only work in corrupt systems, Iran, Saudi, etc, need I say more?
12 :
they are not, but they better be.

you can make a summary of this text?
Coleridge was a man of many parts: poet, literary critic, thinker, journalist, and entertaining speaker. All his friends testified to the charm of his personality, the power of his conversation, and the richness of his mind. However, he often felt frustrated without being able to work out any reason for such frustration. His acute sensibility and his great intellect probably worked against each other to create his malaise. He believed he could react against this but, being incostant, passivity and torpidity got the better of him. Opium was his escape (or maybe justification). Consequently, the idea grew up that he was a ceaseless dreamer, a courageous voyager into the unknown, the artist who would take the risk of being an addict to understand even more of his unconscious and that he was constantly trying to let his imagination wander free and unrestricted. Being hooked on opium left him with a deep sense of guilt that plagued him till almost the end of his life. Coleridge introduced to Britain the work of the the German idealist philosophers. His essential ideas on the imagination are set forth with reasonable brevity in chapter XIII of Biographia Literaria. There Coleridge divides the imagination into two, the primary and the secondary. The primary imagination is the first act of self-consciousness, which makes knowledge and perception possible. The secondary imagination, which is the poetic imagination, is a faculty of the mind wich interprets, shapes, and re-creates its experiences. His years of collaboration with Wordsworth were the happies of his life, and the most fruitful of poetry. The two poets shared certain ideas, like the healing and revelatory power of nature, and its power in the memory, but the contrast in style between Coleridge's poems and those written by Wordsworth is remarkable. It does not only come from their differing temperaments; it is also the result of the way they planned the Lyrical Ballads: Wordsworth was to choose subjects from ordinary life, while Coleridge supernatural incidents and characters. Moreover, where Wordsworth's poetry is essentially meditative, Coleridge's is passionate, mysterious, and appears to be written in total surrender to an uncontrollable vision. Coleridge meant that the poet must have the ability to make his narrative credible, so that the reader is disposed to "suspend" his incredulity and to be led into a world of strange and wonderful vision. Like the wedding guest, he is so fascinated that he "cannot choose but hear". As a poet Coleridge is best known for all small number of poems, the most famous of which are The Ancient Mariner and Kubla Khan. The Ancient Mariner is the closet in the Lyrical Ballads collection to a true ballad. It tells a story, with the emphasis on action tather than on character; and its form probably comes from the eighteenth-century fashion for the ballad imitation. In accordance with his agreement with Wordsworth, Coleridge's tale is supernatural. The use of the supernatural was for Coleridge a technique of psychological revelation; it allowed him to bring into play in his poem the "hidden forces" of the mind. In The Ancient Mariner the chief of these force is guilt, especially as it exists in the mind to some extent indipendent of cause. The Mariner does not known why he killed the albatross; similarly he blesses the living creature of the sea "unaware". His regenative acts bring about only partial restoration. He recreatures of the sea "unaware". His regenerative acts bring about only partial restoration. He remains a frightening figure, the impact of whose experiences distrups ordinary life. Kubla Khan is strange and enigmatic. It is full of images that have the clarity and inexplicability of a dream. It is apparently about artistic creation and its mysterious and frightening power. This poem contains the most famous Romantic description of the artist, a description, deriving details from Plato, of the poet whose inspiration has driven him mad. Poetry like this, which proceeds by image and symbol, will always elude interpretation. Coleridge was also a brillant literary critic and a leading expert on Shakespear, whose plays he analysed with originalitybin numerous essays, and in his talks. His approach as a literary critic broke new ground in that he was not content to limit himself to simple criticism of technique or skills; he endeavoured to identify the very principles of the creative process. However, it is for his poetry that the ordinary reader loved him. Reading poems like the Ancient Mariner, Kubla Khan or Christabel is an experience that fascinates the reader with the skilful combination of rhythm and rhyme, intense symbolism and vivid imagery, capturing the essence of mysterious and supernatural events.

How Great is the NHS (The British Health Care System)

How Great is the NHS (The British Health Care System)?
In America, we are trying to change to a system that is more like the GLORIOUS NHS!!! It works SO well!!! If a man gets cancer in Scotland, he will live 40% (42% in Ireland and 44% in England) of the time!!! In the US, a man only lives 67% of the time. MUCH BETTER in Great Britain!! They also have ALOT more time to decide whether or no they really want to live because of those WONDERFUL long wait times for surgeries and technology!!! And they don't have high standards for other things, because they are used to poor conditions in hospitals!!! SO DO YOU AGREE, that America needs its own NHS. Because it is working SO well in Britain!!!

Did you excel in reading back in high school?
1. Sports are harmful to society in two ways, reflecting the conflict between the interests of the relatively powerful and those of the powerless (the ruling class vs. the masses, team owners vs. sports audiences). 2. First, by serving as an integrating force, sports effectively act as an opiate, numbing the masses’ sense of dissatisfaction with capitalist society. Involvement in sports as spectators tends to distract low-paid or unemployed workers from their tedious and dehumanizing jobs or frustrating joblessness. At the same time, sports tend to promote what Marx called “false consciousness,” attitudes that support the established society rather than question it. The mostly working-class “soccer hooligans” in Great Britain are a good example. After their team loses in international soccer games, they often show “an exaggerated, embarrassing patriotism, a violent nationalism” by attacking foreigners. To divert their citizens’ attention from their miserable lives, governments of many poor countries also seize any opportunity that arises to whip up the masses into a frenzy of patriotic support for their teams. Such a nationalist frenzy can be carried to extremes, as it was in 1969 when Honduras and El Salvador went to war against each other after a World Cup soccer match. 3. Second, sports reinforce social, gender, and racial inequalities in society. With regard to social inequality, the overemphasis on competition and winning has caused the loss of something that all participants can enjoy equally—namely, the original elements of play and fun in sporting activities. This has turned many people into “couch potatoes” who spend more time watching than playing sports. Sports, then, have become big business, with powerful owners of professional teams exploiting the public and government. Aside from making enormous sums of money from the fans, team owners receive many tax breaks while enjoying the enviable position of being the only self-regulated (in effect, unregulated) monopoly in the nation. Team owners have further professionalized and bureaucratized sports. This in turn has generated an elitist system, in which a very tiny number of owners and players become tycoons and superstars and the huge numbers of potential players are transformed into mere spectators. What is the following? Sports are harmful to society. a)the main idea of paragraph 3 b)the main idea of paragraph 2 c)the topic of the passage d)the central point of the passage

The English hooligan problem has never been whipped up by the British state in a flurry of nationalist feeling, for the british state, represents just that - Britain. while english football fans only 'represent' england. The british government has always been deeply embarrassed by this major cultural export of ours. Also its worth pointing out that many hooligans were/are of a left wing persuasion ie:some liverpool fc groups in the 80's. the truth is that a vast majority of football hooligans could not care for the details of political thought, their prejudices are the same as the rest of the society they come from. Extreme political groups have always tried too recruit from football gangs with some but over-all very little success, ultimately english football hooligans couldn't give a fuck about what any politician in a gray suit says or thinks

Life choices advice needed urgently

Life choices advice needed urgently!?
Please help, I'm very confused as to what is the best way forward in my life. To give you a bit of background, I'm 35, live in the Channel Islands, Great Britain and have worked as a hospital administrator for 10 years. Before that, I had a nervous breakdown for want of better words. I had dropped out of university, got diagnosed with bipolar depression and the job started as simple clerical tasks as a therapeutic way of bringing me out of my depression. I did well at the job and soon moved up the ranks and 10 years on I'm still there! Don't get me wrong, it's a stable, well paid job but I've always felt as if I am 'better' than an admin person and need to get a career. I've got a teaching English as a foreign language qualification and have been teaching in my spare time and am almost finished a modern languages degree by correspondance. Meanwhile, I met someone 2 years ago through work, we've since bought a house together and got engaged. He's the love of my life! I'm 35 and my mother started her menopause at age 40. I'm worried that if we don't have a baby soon it will be too late. I also need to come off my lithium for at least 6 months before conceiving which will be very stressful too. So, my quandary comes because I've been 'head hunted' for a job which will incorporate my teaching skills and academic abilities by working as a 'mentor' in a careers service. The job is only a 6 month contract though and my current contract is permanent. Which order should I do things in? Stick with the well paid but boring job I'm in now, make full use of the maternity leave it offers and have a baby and forget about the career.... ......or, grab this chance at doing something I've been wanting to do for a long, long time and risk losing time to have a baby, risk losing money if my contract isn't renewed after the 6 months. Where would that leave us as a couple? I wouldn't be earning money to pay my share of the mortgage. To be honest, I can't work out which option is best for me and need your help. Thank you

If it's me personally, I would forgo the child and go for the career, but I'm not one who craves parenthood. One thing to consider is if your mates income can support the two of you if this other job does fall through? Worse comes to worse and you end up unemployed in six months, can he support the two of you while you try and find something else? I'm sorry I cannot give you the answer and tell you what to do, but I strongly recommend talking over these issue you brought and the ones I raised with your mate. Best of luck to you!

Know anything about triple citizenship

Know anything about triple citizenship?
I was born in Great Britain and moved to the States when I was 7. As of this past Monday I am now citizens of both countries. Even though America doesn't recognize dual, just saying you renounce citizenship to Great Britain doesn't work you have to write a letter. I was wondering if any of you were citizens of three countries or knew anything about it? Thanks Guys! First two answers: I didn't ask you for your opinion. It's none of your business what I do with my life. You know nothing about me nor do you the reasons behind this question. Actually it's not traitorous at all. It's completely legal. Nothing you two say will ever take the experiences I have had away from me.

Citizenship of 3 countries is not practical.
2 :
Dual is still acceptable by some countries but not triple. You have no devotion to any other so why keep you. Best is to choose one and be a loyal citizen. For most traders who run around in two working countries, they will keep two.
3 :
I am not sure what you are trying to ask but in theory you could be a citizen of three countries. For instance, if your parents were from two different countries that recognized the principle of Jus sanguinis; however, you were born in the US. You would be entitled to citizen in all three barring either had a rule against or forced you to swear allegiance to their country.
4 :
True you asked no opinion . However your hearing the truth. If someone wants to be an American they should hold no other citizenship or loyalty. The insane idea of Iraq people living here and voting in Iraq elections is just another way this Country is headed downhill.

I was born in what's now the Czech republic, When Communists took over became a DP (displaced person), then came to the States and became a US citizen (losing the Czech citizenship). In 1998 by a Czech-US agreement, dual citizenship was recognized by both countries. So, I have now dual. 8 years ago while working in Taiwan, I married a Filipina and now live in the Philippines. According to the local law, I can get Philippine citizenship after 10 years residence. That would qualify me for a third passport although I don't see almost any advantages in having it. Come to think of it, I have met a man on a flight from Taiwan to USA who had a triple citizenship... Czech, Italian, and Maltese. Hope this helps.
6 :
yes you can be a dual citizenship of two countries as long as both countries allow dual citizenship. USA DOES allow dual citizenship. YES You can be a citizen of three or more countries as well - AS LONG AS ALL THREE (or more) countries ALL allow dual citizenship. The actor Keanu Reeves has 4 citizenships. His mother is English, his father American, he was born in Lebanon abd he grew up in Canada. He is entitled to citizenships from ALL 4 countries. I beleive he uses his Canadian passport the most.

Thank you

Almost every American cuts his teeth on the American Revolution. As children, we are spoon fed stories about the courageous George Washington braving that grueling winter at Valley Forge and Nathan Hale, strong even in the face of death, going to the gallows, crying out, "I regret that I have but one life to give for my country." Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Adams, Paul Revere-these are names that are engraved on the minds of every American school child. Yes, you know the names--you know the stories, but do you really know the flavor of the times? Do you know why the Revolution happened? Do you know what philosophy underlies 'the American War for Independence? Do you know how it affected the world? And finally, do you know how it affected America and American literature? In the pages of your textbook, you will find, in a very abbreviated form, the political and economic reasons for the Revolutionary War. The colonists began to feel like a nation--calling themselves Americans and resenting the interference of the British. Colonists wanted to have more control in governing the colonies--including more financial control. They resented being taxed by Great Britain, particularly since they felt they had no voice in British government (taxation without representation). These reasons, however, tell only half of the story. The colonists had many legitimate complaints against the British government, but many colonized territories have had equally legitimate complaints against their parent countries, and yet they have not resorted to revolution. The Age of Reason concept of government predisposed the American colonists to view their complaints against Great Britain as sufficient cause for revolt. The Concept of Government in the Age of Reason In Lesson 4, you learned about the basic beliefs of supporters of the Age of Reason. Remember that they emphasized the power of reason and the capability and perfectibility of man. Now let's look at how these basic beliefs were translated into a concept of government that favored individual rights and government by consensus. In the United States of the twentieth century, we often take our right to vote for granted. We don't realize that the idea of the people electing government officials is a relatively new one--a product, in large part, of the Age of Reason. During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, the concept of the divine right of kings was almost undisputed in Europe. The divine right of kings is the belief that God had conferred on the king of a country and his house the power and the right to govern. Man had no say in what God ordained. In England, the concept of divine right was. challenged by Oliver Cromwell in the 1600s when King Charles I was deposed and beheaded for his "crimes" against the kingdom. Unfortunately, the Commonwealth Republic that Cromwell established degenerated into a Protectorate that quickly became a dictatorship. Not long after Cromwell's death, the British Parliament reinstituted the monarchy and the divine right of kings. The concept of government by the people was never fully explored or supported by Cromwell's abortive government. Not until the end of the 1600s were the concepts of government by consensus and the natural rights of man fully developed and written down as a coherent and cogent philosophy. In 1690, John Locke, one of the most important philosophers of the Age of Reason, published his great political work, Two Treatises of Government--a pivotal influence on the leaders of the Revolutionary War 80 years later. What did Two Treatises of Government propose? Basically, it proposed that man was by nature good and that natural law had given man liberty and natural rights (the protection of life, the acquisition and security of property, freedom of movement, equal justice before law, and the freedom to speak and think within certain limits). Natural rights, according to Locke, had existed before formal government and were superior to it. Because these natural rights were not self-enforcing, some form of government was needed to protect them. Government, then, was to serve man--man was not to serve government. The idea of government serving only to protect the natural rights of man developed into the social contract theory. In order to protect their rights, men consented to be governed. They struck up a bargain with the state. The English jurist Blackstone defined the social contract theory of government neatly when he said that government was "a voluntary compact between a ruler and the ruled . . . . liable to such limitations as are necessary for the security of the absolute rights of the latter." The entire purpose of the contract was to provide security, and the happy enjoyment of life, liberty, and property for the governed. Implicit in the terms of the social contract were three things: That the primary power of government remain with the people That th

I think you should add that all the power of the monarchy was removed in 1689 and was placed in the hands of the elected Parliament. King George III had virtually no power, the American Colonists were fighting against the policies of an elected Parliament and Prime Minister, NOT (as the US education system teaches) a tyrannical King. Also, England is not the same as Britain, English is not the same as British.

I'm so tempted to join this work-at-home business called Eastern Financial Group ...?
You would be a Payment Processing Manager and you transfer money they put in your account to one of their clients and get 5% commission. I would open a new account at a different bank than the one I use. They also want US, Great Britain, and New Zealand citizens to do this. Does this sound legit? Anyone else out there working for Eastern Financial Group? Is this a way to get an outsourced job back to a U.S. citizen? So far, all they've asked for is my birth date, but I haven't submitted anything yet. Does this sound like possible identity theft or money laundering for Al Queda? Could it really be a good opportunity? Their website is http://www.easternfinance.co.in. Thank you for any input.

2 :
I know it's an over used phrase, but If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is...
3 :
It is a scam.I've checked the deal , was going to sign up a few months ago too, fortunately I changed my mind.Stay away from work at home online jobs, 99% of them are scams.
4 :
Not Al Queda, just a scam. What they do is send a false deposit into your account, and you then deposit the money for them and keep 5%. However when the bank gets the deposit, usually a false cheque, it'll bounce. But this takes a few days. Basically it puts your account into a negative, and then you're stuck paying off this bill. Report them to authorities immediately, it is a scam. This same thing happened in my town, with students subletting. People would call people who had their places up for sublet, and say they were from a far off place. They then send a false money order for a large amount, larger than what's needed. They then ask for them to put it in their account and send them the difference. Then when the cheque goes through the banks and bounces, these people are stuck with a huge bill. The other thing these guys may get you to do is to divulge your own bank account information, then they just suck the money from your pockets. Don't fall for it, forward it to the cops. PS: The tell I think is in the fact that they say they deal with a lot of money, yet they're trusting absolute strangers without credentials or certification with this money. That's like me asking random people on the street to take my money and deposit it into my account, it's totally illogical.
5 :
DO NOT DO THIS! My best friend decided to do this scam where she would deposit large amount of foriegn checks into her account for some company similiar to the one you want to work for and in the process of them taking their funds out, they also took money out of her account as well leaving her negative. They were smart about it though. When they took it out, they did leave a large amount of commission for her (about 3000$) and she did not spend it. After a month they took it out and some more money as well leaving her broke. These scam artists are getting smarter though. Think about it, when you open this account up, it under your name. And no one ever opens up an account for free, so you will have to start this new account up with YOUR money. Once they transfer these checks into YOUR account, they will have access. Even though its a new account at a different bank, its still your account. A lot of these scams are coming from individuals in countries like Nigeria and individuals in Europe who may or may not have involvement with Nigeria. Check out this link below to read more info on this. But DO NOT do this. If this was your business, would U trust someone over the internet to handle your company's money in a private account? I don't think so.
6 :
I wouldn't trust anything that requires to transfer money like that. That's letting to many people into your finaciall life. If you are looking for a way to supplement some income or make money, I would love to share with you an opportunity that I have found. I love it, Im a mom of 2 and this is the best thing I have ever found. Please click my avatar and email or check out the links there. Good luck you!!!!

This definitely screams some type of scam, money laundering, etc to me. If Socialism is so great why is Britain on the verge of Bankruptcy?
Britain is broken and on the verge of bankruptcy. Ever since the Social Democratic Labour Part took office in 1997 they have ruined a stable economy, sold over half the countries gold reserves when gold was at it's lowest price, raided Pension Funds and the World Bank has declared Britain a credit risk all in the name of a Socialist agenda. Do you still think Socialism will work? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/labour/4162054/Gordon-Browns-decision-to-sell-half-of-the-UKs-gold-reserves-cost-UK-5billion.html Super Sexy Fly, Britain is part of Europe because of the Treaty of Lisbon which no Briton Voted for and now want a referendum. Also don't try and spend Euro's in the UK you will be laughed at and told to take your 'funny money' elsewhere as Britain is still using Pound Sterling Britain has been in the doldrums long before the recession if it has to be known, everything has been sold off to foreign investors who then shut down plants because of Union demands. I don't know if you've heard of this thing-but apparently the world is in a recession. I know, it's crazy. Not like it's on the news all the time, or people talk about it or anything.

Hey, thanks for pointing that out. Britain is doing much better than the US. They're only at bankruptcy, we're far beyond that here in the states. Thank you Bush
8 :
If capitalism is so great how come the US is on the verge of bankruptcy?
9 :
No and UK is not the first one to prove it. However, have you thought that what O is trying to do is bring America to her knees - both politically and financially. Unemployment is double digit now. Inflation has to follow since he is continuing to print money. Then the food shortages will come because he has already stated that $4/gal gas was reasonable and could go higher.. U.S. food production is the lowest it's been in 40 yrs. If Farmer Brown can't till his fields and Trucker Smith can't fuel their necessary vehicles then obviously food production will suffer more. When people have no jobs and have no food and are losing their homes they will riot. Then he can declare Martial Law and then declare himself King for life and he has succeeded. His plan seems to be working very well presently. Are you going to let it happen?
10 :
they're not socialist numbskull. read the communist manifesto.
11 :
Considering the Labour party hasnt been even close to a socialist party since the 80s I think you should be looking to blame capitalism. New labour has enacted neoliberal capitalist policies which have destroyed Britain. Socialism is the only thing that can save Britain. Dont look to the Labour party to give you that socilaism. No youll find it was Thatcher who sold everything off. Union membership before Thatcher was about 80%. Now its at about 20%. The unions havent destroyed anything. The conservatives followed by the conservatives lite have done the damage.
12 :
Yeah but the Brits socialized almost everything including television of all things, pretty stupid.
13 :
Britain has been governed by New Labour since 1997. New Labour are very far from Socialist.

Should a private companies start manufacturing industry in great britain

Should a private companies start manufacturing industry in great britain?
This government and previous governments from Thatcher onwards have sold off all our industry-the last to be sold off was the rover car works. This country is now reliant on other countries for all manufacturing. In an economic collapse all the idiot cameron is doing is making us pay for the banks and selling off the country which is causing our economy to collapse. Someone needs to get some form of manufacturing running in this country again to actually grow the economy. What do others think? Obviously a decent government would demand money off the banks at least the ones we have bailed out to fund grants for companies that want to build.

how would you put this in your own words?
Henry Moseley was born in Great Britain in 1887. His work with x-ray spectra to study atomic structure helped determine atomic numbers for chemical elements. He discovered isotopes, explaining how atomic mass did not order the elements appropriately. Moseley was the catalyst for the periodic law, a rule stating that the properties of elements are a periodic function of their atomic numbers. Using the atomic numbers, Moseley was able to more accurately position the elements in the periodic table. Moseley's change to the periodic table allowed the few problems with Mendeleev's periodic table to disappear.
